Finding a wedding photographer that’s right for you as a couple can be really difficult. There are a LOT of wedding photographers out there, especially in the UK (where we’re based!). Googling “wedding photographer Leeds” will bring up pages of results… So HOW do you narrow it down?!
We got you 🖤 this article will include all the tips, questions & tricks to help you find the perfect wedding photographer that fits your budget, vibe, and personality! Because it’s not just all about what you see on a photographer’s website. Let’s get started!
Alright, so it’s time for you to start the hunt. As we mentioned, googling “wedding photographer” along with your area can be a little overwhelming, given the amount of results that come up.
However, if you’re more inclined to find a wedding photographer that is based in/around your area, obviously it’s a good place to start. But if you cast a really wide net, like “wedding photographer London”, you might wanna include a few other keywords…
For example, searching “alternative wedding photographer London” will narrow down the results to area and niche. If you’re not bothered about area, try a couple of keywords that just fit your vibe, such as “wedding photographer alternative relaxed”. SEO will do its job and point you in the direction of someone who fits your keyword search ✨
Ok, so you’re unsure how to describe your vibe? No problem. What about searching for a photographer based on your wedding theme?
For example, searching “festival style wedding”, or “winter Christmas wedding”, or “summer outdoor wedding” will bring up blogs and websites that feature these weddings. Those websites will always credit the photographer – you can find some that way!
And let’s never forget the holy grail of wedding inspo: Pinterest, of course. A lot of wedding photographers advertise on there and it’s a great way to find them.
When you’ve got a nice list of photographers that you like the initial look of, DIG DEEPER!✨
Check out their Instagram, peep their Pinterest, take a look at their Facebook page. Any reviews on their Facebook, or on Google? Even taking a sneaky peek at their ‘tagged’ tab on Instagram can give you a little more insight; they could be tagged by couples, venues, or styled shoots.
Essentially by looking at their online footprint, you’ll get more of a sense of the types of weddings they shoot, and their general vibe!
Once you’ve narrowed down your search to a few wedding photographers (we’d recommend 2-3 potentials, just to avoid disappointment in case they’re no available for your date), it’s time to see if they’re a good fit!
First thing’s first, if you don’t already know from their website etc., find out their rates so you can confirm they’re within your budget, and that they’re available for your wedding date.
Venue / Location
Asking if they’ve worked at your chosen venue before is a great question; sometimes wedding photographers have a great rapport with venue managers, or they have simply shot at that location before so know their way around!
If they haven’t, there’s no stress. Every wedding photographer loves exploring a new venue.
You’ll also want to ask if they require accommodation, and if that’ll be included in your final price.
VIBESSSSSS
We strongly believe the better you get on with your wedding photographer, the better the outcome will be. You’ll feel more relaxed and so will they! Having a good rapport with them is priceless when it comes to your wedding day & wedding photos.
So feel free to ask them things like:
Questions like this will really help you to grasp what they’re into, and what they love to shoot! Does it fit your vibe and personality? Perfect. If not, perhaps consider another option.
DO THEY NEED INFO?
Asking in advance what information your wedding photographer may need on the lead up to your day can save a bunch of stress. In the weeks before your wedding, you’ll have a lot on your mind and a lot of those last minute jobs to get done. So if you’re aware of the info your photographer will need from you in advance, it won’t be a panicked rush to get it together for them!
So by this point you should have a good grasp on the photographer who’s gonna shoot your beautiful wedding day! 🖤 We truly believe that personality, vibe, and even friendship is such an important part of being a wedding photographer. We share such an intimate, special day with you, how can we not fall in love?!
