On your wedding day, apart from your wedding party, your photographer is gonna be your best friend. They’re there from the very start of the day, through all of the beautiful moments, the big laughs, and the questionable dance moves…
But what info does your wedding photographer need?

FIRST THING’S FIRST: HOW YOUR WEDDING DAY IS GOING TO RUN
Timings in your wedding day are super important! There’s a lot to fit in and a lot to do (and photograph!).
Giving your wedding photographer the timeline of your day is absolutely key for it to run smoothly, and for you to get all the shots you want from your wedding day!
WHERE YOU’RE GETTING READY ON YOUR WEDDING MORNING
This is another super key piece of info your wedding photographer will need to know. Especially if it’s a different location to your wedding venue!
Also consider: Are you getting ready together as a couple? Are you getting ready in separate locations? Do you want both getting ready processes captured?

Have a separate ‘getting ready’ timeline for your wedding day morning, detailing what time your suppliers (like hair or makeup artists) will be arriving, what order everyone will be going in, etc.
WHO’S WHO?
It’s really helpful for your wedding photographer to know who’s who in your wedding day. For example, having a clear idea of who the maid/person of honour or best man/person is (if you have them), can be really handy!
They’re normally a source of information if there’s a question during the day, and it means you’re not bothered at all with needed info!
PROVIDE A CONTACT
If you provide the number of someone close to you, like someone in your wedding party, or maybe a mum, or wedding planner, that can be a really important safety net! For example, if there’s an accident on our way to your wedding morning, or if there’s no clear parking, etc… It’ll be much better for you as the person getting married to not have to worry about anything like that in the morning of.
GROUP PHOTOS
You should provide your wedding photographer with a list of the group photos you want. That way they can work out how much time roughly will be needed to be allocated for your group photographs, and work it into the day.
I’d always recommend not to have too many, as you’ll be surprised at how much time it takes to wrangle everyone in and get them done! But regardless of how many you choose, having a list of them will mean there’s no important ones missed, and we’re all on the same page!
OTHER SPECIFIC PHOTOS
Your wedding photographer will also want to know what other specific photos you want! Obviously you chose your wedding photographer based on their skill, so you’ll get the best outcome by letting them work their magic, but if you want specific shots then there’s no harm in mentioning those!

Like I said at the start of this blog post, you’ll spend the most time with your wedding photographer on your wedding day… So building a rapport or even friendship before your big day can make all the difference in how your photos come out!
